BERNADETTE McKEVITT

I started my working life at the tender age of 15 years when I was gainfully employed as an assistant in a confectioners shop 6 days a week, where I dealt with the ups and downs of working with the public. Three years later, upon passing an entrance exam I was accepted to study nursing. I subsequently qualified as a psychiatric nurse and for more than 20 years, worked in the caring profession.
When people are hospitalized or are unwell in any way – this is the very time they most need my compassion, understanding and expertise and health can improve more effectively when these qualities are in place. When a client is nearing the end of their journey on this earth, they deserve the right to leave with dignity and have loving care. Death is so much a part of life. Our overall health and well-being can change direction during the course of our lives, sometimes it goes up, sometimes we feel down and we can also feel ‘frozen’ in our current situation. An illness can be a gift – if we’re prepared to learn and grow from the experience. The only variable in life is change and it is my job to help, encourage and guide my clients to a better place of acceptance and understanding, which will bring about change. Words are a form of action which can motivate us to take an unchartered path. Love is the basis to all healing and you yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe deserve YOUR love and affection.
Growing up I enjoyed making my own clothes and loved mixing and matching fabric, colour and texture. Then when I went to college as a mature student, I graduated with a degree in fashion from “Fashion Institute of Technology”, in New York City.’ Fashion comes and goes however style is eternal’. My hunger for education and knowledge did not stop there and it is my deep love to help and motivate people which drove me forward, earning a Diploma as a Life and Business Coach and I am a Combination Therapist using EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) and Reiki. I have also recently qualified as a Trainer in NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming), TLT (Time Line Therapy) and Hypnosis.
I feel as though I have always been a motivational speaker, encouraging myself and others to face challenges, overcome obstacles and totally believe in themselves. I have been involved in charitable organizations, feeding the homeless, running fund-raisers and setting up drop-in centres. Travelling extensively throughout Ireland, England, Europe, USA, Canada, Middle-East and Australia, I have worked with many age-groups, nationalities and cultures and I have found at the core of every human being is their desire to live a better life. There is a commonality in the human experience.
On a personal note – I come from a really large family – whereby, when we are having a picnic – we need a field. I love to be out walking in nature, gathering black-berries or swimming in the ocean. I have gone scuba diving in Hawaii and I ran (one) NYC marathon. I also love to dance, cycle, write poetry and make patch-work quilts. I get my ‘Personal Power’ from my daily meditation, a balanced diet, adequate exercise and rest and self-acceptance.
I believe that it is ‘continuous effort’, not strength or intelligence that is the key to unlocking our potential. In my own ‘continuous effort’ to grow, I am currently studying to become a bio-energy therapist under the close instruction and supervision of Michael O’Doherty, co-founder of Plexus Bio-Energy and author of ‘Just Imagine’., a life without illness.
Variety is the spice of life and my journey continues…
